Through his Afrodisiak Clothing line, Joe Kollege has found a way to not only provide smart and fashionable attire, but also reach your soul in harmony.  In addition to being a part owner of Afrodisiak Clothing, Joe Kollege is a well-seasoned Chicago DJ who has been keeping fan’s ears bent, with the popular annual AfroSoul mix.  Together, the clothing and music work in tandem by bringing both endeavors to everyone and are embraced with open arms once released.
The Afrodisiak Clothing line was created to reflect bold and powerful statements from the soul, that can be expressed by a simple logo or print. Many artists have let Afrodisiak tees express their vibe of the day, with their fun and stylish pieces. These phenomenal tees have been worn by the likes of Mos Def, Common, Dwele, T3 (Slum Village), Russell Taylor, and Gordon Chambers.  With a great selection of shirts for men and women, the Afrodisiak styles keep snazzy t-shirt fanatics returning for new looks. Additionally, the AfroSoul mix has been accompanying the line for 4 volumes strong.  The celebration and selection of indie soul and hip hop talent brought to you by Joe Kollege, is not to be taken lightly!  This year’s volume – AfroSoul Vol. 5 includes the likes of Janelle Monae, PJ Morton &Tweet, Eric Roberson, The Primeridian, Choklate, Foreign Exchange and more!
Your favorite piece of clothing should evoke a special sentiment or emotion when worn. It should render you in a state of nostalgia, as well as take you on a journey, conjuring up the different occasions you wore that piece and the events that transpired on that given day.  Let the Afrosoul mix, infused with heavy hitters from both the soul and hip hop scene –  along with an Afrodisiak tee, transport you there – now and forever.

15 of Hip Hop’s Greatest

Posted by joekollege on Tuesday, 1 June, 2010

I decided to list 15 of my favorite Hip Hop albums of all time…I know some people will disagree, but who cares…these are my picks (LOL!). What was my criteria? Well, to make it plain…dope lyrics and tight beats! Also, I just related to these albums/artists…I can listen (still to this day) to these albums from start to finish, which is very rare with albums nowadays. These albums are in no particular order. What are some of your top albums?

SB Releases Anticipated Project

Posted by joekollege on Monday, 31 May, 2010

Hip Hop Artist SB releases his long-awaited project, Revolusean. If you aren’t familiar with SB, check out his Bio…

Named “one of Chicago’s ten hottest rising artists” by the Chicago Tribune, Sean Eric-Baraka Butler, bka Sean “SB” Butler, is at the forefront of a hip-hop revolution. His motivational lyrics and passionate stage show have earned him international recognition from devoted fans and industry insiders alike. Likewise, his commitment to addressing social ills and promoting positive values in his music have drawn comparisons to U2 front man, Bono, and reggae legend Bob Marley…high praise for this industry newcomer. Such reception has enabled him to open for and share billing with a host of celebrated acts including Erykah Badu, Common, Kanye West, Amel Larrieux, Talib Kweli, Twista, Snoop, Lupe Fiasco, Rhymefest, De La Soul, KRS ONE, Dead Prez, Redman, Method Man, Camp Lo, The Pharcyde, Souls of Mischief, Slick Rick, Coco Brovaz, Jon B., Brotha Ali, and many others.

A refreshing blend of hip-hop with influences from soul, jazz, rock and R&B, SB’s music convincingly takes hip-hop to a new plateau. While his music signals a much needed change in contemporary content, he has successfully garnered airplay from core commercial radio stations such as New York’s 107.5 FM (WBLS), Chicago’s 107.5 FM (WGCI) and 92.3 FM (Power 92) without any of the profanity and vulgarity that is prevalent in the genre today. Focusing instead on producing quality music with substance, his songs have been featured on numerous college radio stations and mixtape compilations in the U.S. and abroad. A feature on the FREE Magazine mix CD has extended his fanbase to include followers in London, and Johannesburg, South Africa. He has also been featured as a musical guest on a nationwide broadcast of the WGN Morning show and appeared as a performer on the FOX and NBC evening news.

An outspoken advocate of education, SB is a primary contributor to a recently published book entitled, “Balancing The Bias”, by author and Soul Poetry Café founder, Terrence Seaphus. Designed to teach literary and critical thinking skills, SB’s chapters deal with utilizing hip-hop’s universal appeal as a forum for achieving these goals. As the founder of the R.E.A.C.H. program (Revitalizing Education, Art & Culture through Hip-Hop), he presents these principles through interactive workshops, primarily at the grade school and high school level. Committed to uplifting the youth, SB, performs as both an entertainer and a motivational speaker at various grade schools, high schools, colleges and universities across the country.

Fresh out of the studio, SB has put the final touches on his full length debut album, “REVOLUSEAN” which features production from Kanye West mentor No ID (Common, Jay-Z, G-Unit, Toni Braxton), Hula, Dejion & K.Fingers “Azza” (Will Smith, Jazzy Jeff, Missy Elliott), Tye Hill (Felix da Housecat, Sean “P-Diddy Combs), Allbangaz, and the talented Soul People band. The album is available NOW and can be purchased here:
